Psychological Perspectives on the Individual - Part 1: Freud and his Time

Freud is on of the most famous Psychologist and has shaped the Western view of the Self substantially. However, he, too, is a product of his culture and time - and his way of thinking makes only sense in that context.

If you are not familiar with that context, please click on the following link:

Some of Freud's main ideas can be found in his Civilization and Its Discontent. Please read this famous essay collection carefully and feel free to comment on it.

  3. Learning about "ID", "Ego" and "Superego" has been very useful for me in understanding the individual and the society better. It helps me to be able to explain and understand the motives behinds one's thinking and behaviours. There are always reasons and layers of personality structure behind individual's actions

  4. Everything in life appears contradiction; even ourselves are in the state of contradictions. From what I understand, Freud argues that human nature is evil, and morality is used to restrain the basic desire.

  5. Learning more about Freud, and then analyzing pop cultural films, his influence is everywhere. Especially in Alford Hichcock's horror flicks.

  6. “Freud is one of the most famous Psychologist and has shaped the Western view of the Self substantially. Therefore I wonder what would he would have made of modern issues such as Feminism and gay marriage. Any ideas?
